I started my committed yoga practice in May 2014. I had practiced yoga before then but it was sporadic. I found myself wanting to commit to a space in which I could practice and grow. The Uptown studio was in my neighborhood and, in truth, I sought a counterbalance for the high intensity interval training I was doing. I walked into my first class and noticed the quiet but active nature of yoga. I felt immediately welcome. I found a peaceful sense of challenge in my initial months practicing yoga. This has evolved to a heightened sense of awareness as I deepen my practice.
I have better control now of my body and my physical system as a whole. I have made new connections which have enriched my life. My worldview has shifted and expanded to include more viewpoints and different perspectives. I have found and helped to cultivate a sense of community at my studio and with other yoga practitioners. I share my journey and my practice with people I know to help dispel the typical beliefs surrounding what type of people practice yoga. It can be for everyone, regardless of ethnicity, size or socioeconomic status. I am grateful for the addition of yoga in my life and hope to share it with others in any way I can.
